Indonesia's fisheries sector sees growth in Q1 2025

JAKARTA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said on Wednesday that the country's export value of fishery products rose by 6.5 percent year-on-year, reaching 1.94 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2025.

Speaking during a session with Commission IV of the House of Representatives at the parliament building, Trenggono noted that the export volume of fishery products also increased by 2.3 percent, totaling 430,000 tons over the first three months.

In terms of production, Indonesia generated 5.87 million tons of fishery products in the first quarter, marking a 2 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Among the various subsectors, farmed fish production experienced the highest growth at 3.0 percent, followed by seaweed at 2.2 percent, and captured fisheries at 0.7 percent, the minister added.
