Indonesia accelerates garlic imports to stabilize prices before fasting month

JAKARTA, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has accelerated the import of 35,600 tons of garlic to stabilize prices ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan, according to the Ministry of Trade on Monday.

"The plan is for 21,000 tons to arrive in March and 14,600 tons in April," said Tommy Andana, the ministry's expert staff for business climate and market security.

The authorities also urged importers who have already imported garlic to distribute it immediately.

According to the National Food Agency, the stock of garlic in Indonesia is predicted to be adequate, except for the eastern region of the country.
