JAKARTA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government is currently discussing a new policy aimed at eliminating import quotas to facilitate and streamline trade, a senior official said on Wednesday.

"The government is examining the plan thoroughly. We still need more in-depth guidance regarding the implementation of that policy from President Prabowo," said Indonesian Minister of Trade Budi Santoso in Jakarta.

The plan followed President Prabowo Subianto's directive to revoke import quotas on essential goods.

During a dialogue session at an event in Jakarta, Prabowo said that he had already instructed relevant ministers to eliminate import quotas, particularly for goods vital to the public's daily needs. This initiative was part of a broader strategy to simplify processes, ease business burdens, create jobs, and promote economic growth.

"Whoever is able to import, whoever wants to import, please do so," Prabowo said.
