JAKARTA, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Thursday condemned Israel's plan to expand its control to cover about 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, saying the move violates international law and undermines efforts to achieve peace.
Foreign Minister Sugiono said the plan contradicts the two-state solution, which Indonesia supports as the basis for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
"These are illegal measures being carried out by Israel," Sugiono said in a statement.
He reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to promoting peace and supporting Palestinian independence through international diplomatic channels, adding that Indonesia also called on the international community to intensify efforts to resolve the conflict and address the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
