JAKARTA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Agency (KPK) has arrested at least 34 people including a district chief in the province of Central Java over alleged corruption in procurement projects and bribery for promotion, the agency's spokesperson said on Friday.
Mukti Agung Wibowo, the chief of Pemalang district, was reportedly busted on Thursday evening with a number of officials in a sting operation in the region.
KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri told local media that investigators have seized cashes in Indonesian rupiahs and other evidence. "The amount still needs to be clarified to those arrested," he said.
The district chief along with others were still under scrutiny by KPK investigators at the agency's headquarters in South Jakarta and the anti-graft body is expected to name suspects in the case within 24 hours after the arrest.
