JAKARTA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- A fire that broke out at a psychiatric hospital in the city of Surakarta in Indonesia's Central Java province on Friday has killed two patients.

Hospital spokesperson Joko Mulyono told local media that the killed patients identified by their initials YA and YR were trapped in a locked room.

When the incident occurred, he said, 18 patients were in the room and three nurses on duty were only able to rescue 16 patients. Both YA and YR could not be rescued because the fire had already grown, said Mulyono, adding that three other patients had suffered injuries.

The hospital management has informed the families of the victims and was still awaiting the forensic investigation carried out by the provincial police.
