KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttlers kept up their momentum on the second day of the Malaysia Open 2022 on Wednesday.
Men's singles shuttler Lu Guangzu outplayed his Malaysian opponent NG Tze Yong 21-16, 21-23, 21-18 in a close first round match lasting nearly one and an half hours while Olympic gold medalist Chen Yufei beat compatriot Zhang Yiman to claim a 21-18, 21-8 victory in the women's singles event.
Mixed doubles duo Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong beat Hoo Pang Ron/Toh Ee Wei of Malaysia 21-17, 21-18 in a closely fought match while women's doubles pair Zhang Shuxian/Zheng Yu decisively beat Thailand's Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai 21-10, 21-8.
Following up on the success, men's doubles pair He Jiting/Zhou Haodong beat host pair Boon Xin Yuan/Wong Tien Ci 21-10, 21-12.
However, the Chinese team also suffered some setbacks with Zhao Junpeng losing out to Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-19, 14-21, 21-15 in men's singles while men's doubles pair Ren Xiangyu/Tan Qiang were bested by Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia 17-21, 21-15, 21-14.
Women's doubles pair Liu Xuanxuan/Xia Yuting were beaten 22-20, 21-14 by hosts Pearly Tan/Muralitharan Thinaah while mixed doubles pair Zhang Shuxian/Guo Xinwa lost 21-15, 19-21, 21-16 to Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue of France.
