NEW DELHI -- The death toll in India's flood-hit state Uttarakhand rose to 34, the state's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Tuesday after taking an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas.
The chief minister announced a monetary compensation of 400,000 Indian rupees (around 5,329 U.S. dollars) to the families of each of the deceased. (India-Flood-Deaths)

JAKARTA -- Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said on Tuesday that at least 1,862 houses in the resort island of Bali were damaged by earthquakes measuring 4.8 and 3.8 magnitude last Saturday.
Of the 1,862 houses, BNPB's spokesman Abdul Muhari said 617 were severely damaged, 1,203 were lightly damaged and 42 were moderately damaged. (Indonesia-Earthquake-Damage)

HANOI -- The 15th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, will convene for its second plenary session from Oct. 20 to Nov. 13, with the focus on legislative work and the country's socio-economic plans, an official said Tuesday.

TOKYO -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck off Japan's northern Aomori Prefecture on Tuesday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
The temblor occurred at around 9:36 p.m. local time, with its epicenter at a latitude of 41.4 degrees north and a longitude of 143.0 degrees east, and at a depth of 50 km. (Japan-Earthquake)
