HANOI -- The 14th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam on Monday afternoon elected Pham Minh Chinh as the country's new prime minister.
A resolution was adopted by the top legislature with an approval rate of 96.25 percent to elect Chinh as the new prime minister of the country at the ongoing 11th session of the 14th NA, Vietnam News Agency reported. (Vietnam-PM-Election)

JAKARTA -- At least 68 people were killed and 70 others still missing in floods and landslides triggered by Tropical Cyclone Seroja in Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara, the country's disaster mitigation agency said at a press conference Monday afternoon.

DHAKA -- The death toll of Sunday's ferry sinking in the Shitalakkhya River near Bangladesh's capital Dhaka has risen to 26 Monday afternoon, after another 21 bodies were retrieved, an official said.
Ershad Hossain, senior duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, told Xinhua that the bodies of the victims, including children and women, were recovered from the river in Narayanganj district, about 20 km away from Dhaka. (Bangladesh-Boat Accident)

BANGKOK -- Thailand on Monday recorded a surge in coronavirus infection with 194 new cases, mainly due to clusters found in a prison in the southern Narathiwat province as well as night entertainment venues in several provinces, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
