COLOMBO -- Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa declared open the largest tyre and radial tyre manufacturing factory in South Asia, in Horana, in the country's Western Province on Thursday, local media reported here Friday.
Quoting a statement from the President's Office, local media reported that the factory, Ferentino Tire Corporation- Private Limited, has been set up on a 155-acre land which belongs to the Board of Investments' Industrial Zone in Wagawatta, Horana and the investment of the first phase of the project is 100 million U.S. dollars.(Sri Lanka-Tyre factory)

JAKARTA -- Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has extended the search for victims of last week's Sriwijaya Air crash as well as the aircraft's cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and other materials for another three days, the agency's chief said here on Friday.
"It was decided that the joint search and rescue (SAR) operation to search for Sriwijaya Air victims will be extended for another three days until Monday," Basarnas' chief Bagus Puruhito told reporters.(Indonesia-Aircrash-Search)

MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Friday reported 2,048 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number in the country to 496,646.
The death toll climbed to 9,876 after 137 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. It added 551 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 459,737.(Philippines-COVID-19)

JAKARTA -- At least 35 people have died after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesia's West Sulawesi province, the National Disaster Management Agency said on Friday.
"Nine people died in Majene district, and 26 others in Mamuju district, bringing the total death toll to 35," said the West Sulawesi Provincial Disaster Management Agency's head Darno Majid.(Indonesia-Earthquake)
