Israel-Hamas in stand-off in Gaza Strip
Jakarta News.Net Wednesday 12th November, 2008
Israel has asked the international community to put more pressure on Hamas to end violence in the Gaza Strip, after it finally resumed fuel and food
deliveries to the territory.
However after a week-long blockade of Gaza, the United Nations said Israel's handling of the civilian population over the border had been shameful.
Fresh supplies of fuel and food need to be allowed through Israel's borders to service the needs of almost 800,000 Gazans, who will be out of food in two days.
Israel allowed partial resumption of the fuel supply after pleas from the international Middle East envoy Tony Blair, but Israel insists it will continue to respond to attacks by Hamas militants until they recognise the state of Israel and denounce terrorism. Email this story to a friend
